As I look through the pictures on our camera from the last
week, it occurs to me that they all have to do with food. Which is weird, because I hardly ever think about food.
Anyhow, the first photo came about because Nate felt the photography bug at Sunday dinner last week.
(We had this
pork tenderloin and my mom’s rice pilaf [but with half white rice/half brown rice,
which is how we compromise in our marriage].)
On Valentine’s Day, Nate had a night class, so we went to
dinner on Wednesday night instead. Definitely the way to go! Our
server at Texas Roadhouse told us the wait for a table on Valentine’s Day was
between 2 and 2 ½ hours, from 5:00 pm until closing. Yikes! That sounds like a
very romantic evening, sitting in the waiting area at Texas Roadhouse for 2
hours, with 50 other people squished in around you, eating peanuts and throwing
their shells on your feet.
I can't get enough of those Texas Roadhouse rolls. Our server was a rockstar and brought us tons
of them, so we had a take home box dedicated to rolls which brought me much
happiness over the next couple of days.
On Saturday we went to the annual Pancake Breakfast put on by the Lions Club, which brought to mind the pancake dinners they were
always having on Friday Night Lights. Since I allow a TV show to set the standard
in my mind of what life is like in Texas, I love when real life lives up to it.
The Lions Club was serious about their pancakes, they served them from 7am to 8pm. We had heard it was a pretty big deal,
and that there would be a rush between 9am and noon, and again around 5pm for
dinner, so we went at 2:30 hoping to avoid the lines. Didn’t work.
The line wrapped all the way around the Civic Center, so we walked in and the pancake room was to the left, but the end of the line was to the right and went all the way around the building. It moved pretty quickly, though, we only had to wait about ½ hour
before we finally had pancakes in our hands.
We upgraded to the strawberry syrup, which was totally worth it.
Except on my second plate. Stuck with the maple that time.
They had some really great entertainment – this guy in the picture has been gracing the stage at the Pancake Breakfast for
55 years. He had an electric keyboard, turned on one of the pre-programmed
songs, and played along with one hand. I loved it.
They were also selling popcorn and cotton candy on the way
out, since that’s what you crave when pancakes are sitting heavy and expanding inside your stomach.
I guess there's never a bad time to eat popcorn. Those Lions are good at getting our money! (We’re still waiting for the phone call telling us that we won the raffle for the giant TV.)
you guys find the coolest stuff that goes down in lubbock. Im impressed! well done... looks tasty and entertaining!
